Oberyn Martell, a younger prince of Dorne, was also a fierce fighter who earned the nickname "Red Viper". He spent time at the Citadel, but dropped out of school before gaining a full set of ties. Prince Oberyn acted as Tyrion Lannister's champion during Tyrion's trial in combat for the assassination of King Joffrey. He hoped to exact revenge on the crown champion, Gregor Clegane, whom he believed had murdered his sister. He struck a mortal, but then died himself when he got too close to the man known as the Mountain.
