In the Third Age of Middle-earth, the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins is unexpectedly involved in an epic quest to recapture the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long conquered long ago by the dragon Smaug. Bilbo joins a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oak Shield.
On this harrowing journey, Bilbo and his Dwarf Company meet a troll lair in Rh-deur, where they find two ancient elven swords, Glamdring and Orcrist, and a knife. The exact history of these swords is unclear, but when semi-eespher Lord Elrond examines them in Rivendel, he confirms that they are well-known and ancient elf weapons, forged by the High Elves of the West and used in the Goblin Wars to kill many Orcs in the First Age.
Bilbo claims the knife for himself, which, for someone of his stature, is more of a sword. Wield the sword for most of the mission, using it against the giant spiders of Mirkwood to save the Dwarf Company. After Bilbo has killed his first spider, declare, I’ll give you a name and call you Sting.
Sixty years later, Bilbo grants Frodo to serve him and protect him in his quest to destroy the One Ring.
Sting’s sword lights up in blue as the Orcs, Sauron’s violent infantrymen, approach.
