Torshov Viking Sword, Rome with Sheath
Torshov Viking Sword, Rome with Sheath
Our battle-ready reconstruction of this Viking sword is based on a find in Torshov (Gjerdrum) in southern Norway. The handle is classified as type H, which was very common between the years 800 and 950 d.C. Many finds of similar grip accessories, such as guards and knobs, show the popularity of this style.
This Roma sword from the early Middle Ages is hand-forged. The protection and knob are made of thermally treated malleable cast iron. The spring steel blade is oil-tempered up to 48-50 rockwell, forged up to the handle and polished with the knob. The wooden gip is wrapped with leather thread. The blade has a distinctive padding that offers flexibility and less weight. The edges of this sword are dull and the tip is rounded for added safety.
