    Description

    Sutton Hoo S.VII Helmet
    Sutton Hoo S.VII Helmet
The Sutton Hoo Archaeological Site in East Anglia, England, includes numerous burial mounds, including the famous ship's grave, from which remarkably well-preserved precious artifacts from the 7th century were recovered in 1939. The most famous finds from this tomb are probably the gilt buckle (Great Gold Buckle) and the Sutton Hoo helmet, both important testimonies to Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship.
The magnificent helmet is believed to have been a funerary gift from an Anglo-Saxon prince and was probably made in the early 7th century. Historically, it is close to other Germanic helmets from the early Middle Ages such as .B. of Vendel and Valsgärde (Sweden).
When found, the hull had been smashed into hundreds of pieces. The assembled fragments and a very elaborate replica made by the Royal Armories can now be admired in the British Museum in London.
