S.P.Q.R. - Viking sax made of Damascus steel with wooden/bone handle
S.P.Q.R. - Viking sax made of Damascus steel with wooden/bone handle
This Viking Age knife with a sharp 256-layer Damascus steel blade is based on an eleventh-century Baltic war knife or saxophone, which was found at a buried in Priekuli-Gugeri (Latvia). The wooden handle is closed on both sides with bone and brass rings. It has an oval cross section and is therefore firmly in the hand. The lid of the brass handle is equipped with a practical lace hole (a leather strap is included).
The beautiful leather cover is decorated with elegant brass accessories. Thanks to three leather clips attached to brass rings, the knife can be carried horizontally on the belt in the typical Viking style. The stylized animal heads that adorn the carrying straps are based on findings from Björkö/Birka (Sweden).
It should be noted that the blade is sharp and fully functional. Therefore, this sax is not suitable for exhibition combat and is only designed as a collector’s item or decorative object.
