S.P.Q.R. - Damascus steel sax with wooden/bone handle
S.P.Q.R. - Damascus steel sax with wooden/bone handle
This Saxo knife with a broken back has a sharp blade made of 256-layer Damascus steel. Towards the leaf, the wooden handle closes with a layer of bone and a brass ferrule. The grip cap with a handy cord hole is also made of brass.
The beautiful leather sheath is richly decorated with brass hardware. Thanks to two leather clips attached to brass rings, the saxophone can be worn horizontally on the belt in the typical Viking style.
It should be noted that the blade is sharp and fully functional. Therefore, this dagger is not suitable for exhibition combat and is only designed as a collector’s item or decorative object.
The term Damascus steel or simply Damascus describes a composite steel made of two or more different types of steel. The name is derived from the Syrian city of Damascus, which is considered the ancient fortress and origin of Damascus steel production. Typically, a high-carbon hard steel and a low-carbon soft steel are joined by repeated welding to the fire and folding. Carbon-rich steel ensures higher hardness, better temperability and greater edge retention, while softer steel gives the blade greater elasticity and greater resistance to breakage. With this technology, which emerged in an era of poor and changing steel qualities, you can combine the positive properties of different steels. Due to the different colors with variable carbon content, there are also impressive patterns of alternating layers, for example, twisted, such as the so-called twisting damask or in pink damask. Not only by these patterns, the Damascus swords of the Middle Ages were attributed an inherent magic.
