Russian Shashka agedRussian Shashka aged
The shashka (circassian for long knife) is a saber of Caucasian origin that was adopted by the Russian army in the nineteenth century and eventually became the legendary weapon of the famous Seers. Its most characteristic feature was its handle, which lacked conventional protection and was equipped with a distinctive knob tilted downwards. Due to its unique overall design, the shashka was more effective when riding and therefore perfectly suited the cavalry.
The beautiful piece we offer here is a reproduction of a Seable Of the Original Soviet Pattern of 1927 (M1927) manufactured in 1934 at the Zlatoust Armory, USSR. This type of NKVD shashka was still used in the ranks of the Red Army during World War II.
The full-edged EN45 spring steel blade is not sharp and given an aged patina to simulate signs of wear. The finely detailed knob is engraved with the initials C.C.C.P., a star and a sickle and a hammer. The cushion/collar features the markings and serial number of the original artifact on which it is inspired. Both the knob and the crossbar are made of brass and were given an aged finish. The grooved handle is made of wood.
Approx. A 50 cm long plug bayonet is included in the delivery for the so-called Mosin-Nagant repeater rifle.
This saber comes complete with a wooden sheath and brown leather. The bayonet supports, neck and lid are made of aged brass.
Note that this sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collection piece or decoration/exhibition and is not suitable for combat recreation. In addition to its quality as a collection object, it also fits perfectly as an accessory, p. E.g. to complete your costume.
