    Description

Roman Mainz Gladius type with sheath, S. I
Roman Mainz Gladius type with sheath, S. I
The gladius, the main weapon of the Roman legionnaires of the s. Ⅲ. to. C. to 3rd c. AD, was used in many variations over the centuries. Designed primarily as a push/stab weapon, it was also quite effective for cutting or cutting. Finally, this highly feared short sword was gradually replaced by the longest spatha during the Middle/Late Roman Empire.
This short Roman sword is not an exact replica of a royal archaeological find, but a classic-style one-century-first reconstruction. Gladius mainz, named after the German city of the same name where the first canonical specimens were found. The most distinctive feature of these gladii in particular was the double-edged, slightly «entailed» leaf with a long tip.
The Roman sword we offer here has a typical Mainz style blade forged in EN45 spring steel (not tempered, not hardened) with a diamond flat cross section and a long, pointed tip. The edges are not sharp and the entire blade nipple is bolted to the knob (upper brass nut). The handle is made of bone, protection and wooden knob. The protector features an inserted brass plate.
This one-handed Roman gladius comes complete with a red wooden and leather sheath with brass accessories (one neck band, three cross bands, side gutters and a V-shaped hood topped with a palm and finished in a button cap). The two upper bands are equipped with cast brass suspension rings that allow the wearer to bring his gladius in true Roman style.
Note that this sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collection piece or decoration/exhibition and is not suitable for combat recreation. In addition to its quality as a collection object, it also fits perfectly as an accessory, p. E.g. to complete your costume.
