    Description

    Robert Bruce's Medieval Helmet
    Robert Bruce's Medieval Helmet
This medieval helmet, also called a boiler hood or bascinet, developed at the beginning of the 14th century from the so-called brain hood and was widespread throughout Central Europe until the 15th century. What we offer here is based on the helmet of the famous bronze statue of Robert I of Scotland (1274-1329) at Bannockburn. After years of fighting the English crown, King Robert (commonly known as Robert the Bruce) defeated the army of Edward II of England in 1314 at the Battle of Bannockburn, a decisive battle that ultimately led to the restoration of Scottish independence. In addition to the legendary William Wallace, Robert the Bruce remains one of Scotland's most celebrated historical figures.
This early 14th century helmet is made of 1.6mm (16 gauge) steel and decorated with a detailed, riveted brass crown. To protect the neck, the helmet has a chain mail up to the shoulders. The 4-in-1 chain link consists of 1.6 mm thick, structure-free round steel rings with an inner diameter of approx. 9mm. A strip of stamped leather, approx. 4 cm wide, it is firmly stitched, and is attached to the lower edge of the helmet via so-called vervelles (small protruding anchor points or rivets with holes) and secured with a thin leather cord. In this way, it can be removed or reattached at will.
The blackened interior is provided with a fine adjustable leather inlay, and the adjustable chin strap in brown, 3mm thick leather is fitted with a buckle made of brass (with antique finish).
This beautiful wearable helmet is suitable for light show combat, reenactment, LARP, stage or tv and film, and will make your transformation into a proud knight or noble king just perfect. It is of course also an excellent addition to any helmet collector's treasury and also makes a beautiful display or decorative item for all lovers of Scottish history.
