  • Condition: About as clean as you can expect to find one of these rare lamps. The only issues are some scratches to the silver in three areas ; 1) Around the shade’s bottom edge due to contact with the metal shade support, 2) Some light scratches to the silver medallion at the top of the shade where the monogram is engraved and 3) Around the bottom edge of the lamp base. The glass is all good without any chips, cracks or repairs. The lamp has been rewired and works. Please see description and photos.

    Description

    Rare Silver Overlay Table Lamp
    I am pleased to be able to offer you an extremely rare American silver overlay table lamp c. 1910-20. In my 35 year career I have only seen one other example and that was in a collection and not for sale. The crystal shade and base are overlaid with heavy .999 fine silver flowers, vines, curls and leaves. Monogrammed in a medallion at the top of the shade, possibly, “FSC” ? Both the shade and base are marked, “Fine 999/1000 Silver” and the base further marked, “329” and “Black Starr & Frost” for the retailer.
    The silver does not have a makers mark, although it was probably made by Alvin or Gorham as these are the two firms I see most often when dealing with American overlay. The upper cap to the base is silver plated and the original socket was made by Hubbell, the top name in socket quality. I would think a must for any American overlay collection. Enjoy !
