Hello and thanks for checking out my listing. You may know about or be familiar with this drum, but for those who do not, I will do my best to describe it.
This is an African Talking Drum made by Joe Galeota of JAG drums. He is current a professor of African Drumming at Berklee in Boston, and is himself a master drummer and of course a fantastic teacher. I had a few of his classes when I attended Berklee in 1981-82, and thus was eager to snag this talking drum from Drummers World in NYC later in the 80's or early 1990's when Joe began making drums himself.
It is a traditional design and size, squeezing it of course changes the pitch and the notes. The tension cords are very durable synthetic and adjustable if need be. The two thin goat heads on either side are in great shape, no tears or dents at all, and both have his logo. It comes with two sticks for playing, and also a very handy carry bag, courtesy of MCA/Universal Distribution ( with some of their record labels at the time printed on the side).
This drum is head and shoulders above any other talking drum on the market today. Compare the amount of tension strings on that with anything else you can find for sale, it's noticably better. Most of the African ones are not professional quality, better reserved for souvenirs, and the mass produced ones have no vibe at all and poor quality of sound as well, just thrown together for the sake of filling the catalog. This is a highly professional drum made by a master drummer with a deep deep knowledge of the construction and musical needs of this drum, and all his other drums. It's highly unlikely you'll come across something like this again..
Thanks for your time, best to you..
