Ivsom surdos are the best surdo available for playing samba and other rhythms from Rio. The depth is a good size for volume and projection when tuned appropriately for samba, and is comfortable to carry with a strap. The construction is very solid, with a crimp around the top and bottom of the shell to hold the drum in round, and threaded rims that the tuning rods screw in to (less rattling and easier head changes). The skin heads are high quality, and the 3/8″ tuning nuts tune easily with the included washers.
These models are sold with a skin head on top and a nylon head on the bottom.  This is a versatile setup for Rio-style playing.  Drums can also be setup with two skin heads (for ) more or with two nylon heads (for less).
