Hedeby Viking Sword, ninth. C.Hedeby Viking Sword, ninth. C.
This beautifully detailed Viking sword is a reconstruction of a finely crafted and remarkably well-preserved burial find excavated in Hedeby (also called Haithabu) and believed to have belonged to a 9th-century Danish nobleman or a wealthy Viking warrior. The original archaeological piece is on display at the Hedeby Viking Museum. The site of the Viking era of Hedeby, the most important Viking settlement and place of commerce on the Jutland peninsula (near the city of Schleswig, once in Danish territory and now in northern Germany), was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018.
As for its shape, this one-handed sword is a classic example of a Nordic weapon as handled by the Vikings. It has the typical characteristics of a traditional sword of the Middle Ages: a short guard, a straight double-edged blade with a wider knob and distinctive of several lobes.
The blade of this replica is forged in hardened EN45 spring steel. The edges are not sharp and the entire blade nipple is riveted to the knob. The wooden core handle is wrapped in red leather and features richly decorated brass rings at both ends. Approx. The 14 cm long, 2 cm thick protection and the generously sized five-lobe knob are cast in brass and closely recreate the highly detailed engraved motifs and patterns of the original artifact.
This early medieval hand sword comes complete with a red wooden and leather sheath with a neck, aged brass loop and loop and finely detailed (maximum belt width 6 cm).
Note that this sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collection piece or decoration/exhibition and is not suitable for combat recreation. In addition to its quality as a collection object, it also fits perfectly as an accessory, p. E.g. to complete your costume.
