Hanwei - Early medieval sword Tinker with battle sheetHanwei - Early medieval sword Tinker with battle sheet
Michael ‘Tinker’ Pearce has designed a range of Hanwei swords made of 5160 steel that combine authenticity, functionality and performance.
To meet the different demands of Western martial artists, there is a sharp and a blunt version of each of the seven swords, all of which offer excellent handling. The careful heat treatment of 5160 steel (preferred by Tinker) by hot bath hardening (English: marquenching) results in an excellent interaction of strength and flexibility with a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. This allows greater edge strength with sharp blades, while blunt models prevent burr formation and ensure flexibility related to tip safety.
Spare blades are available for every type of sword in this series, with the exception of the early Viking sword. A key feature of Tinker’s designs is that the blades are interchangeable. This gives you the opportunity to purchase a full sword plus a spare blade so you can use the sharp, blunt version. All long swords, bastard swords, and early medieval swords have Tinker’s special assembly system with hex nuts, which allows you to easily change the blade with an Allen wrench and ensures that the handle remains well held.
The first medieval swords (Oakeshott Type X11) are available in a sharp and forceful version. Both are identical in handling. The sharpened sword is provided with a more complete one that extends over about a third of the blade, with a diamond-shaped cross-section flattened towards the tip. The blunt version is provided with a wide, shallow bezel to shift the weight towards the edges. In this way, the shovel offers security without harming the sensation. The cross-shaped handle is beautiful and functional. A leather-lined sheath is included.
