German Swept Hilt Rapier w. Scabbard, 17th c.German Swept Hilt Rapier w. Scabbard, 17th c.
This reconstruction of the early seventeenth century. The German swept-handled stoque has a narrow, sharply tapered EN45 spring steel blade with diamond cross-section and pointed tip. The edges are not sharp and the entire blade nipple is secured to the knob with a steel top nut. The complex and elegant swept handle with S-shaped cross-protection and side ring is made of sweet steel, just like the knob. The handle is composed of a wooden core wrapped with alternating layers of brass and braided steel wire. The delivery includes a wooden sheath strongly bound in black leather and finished with a steel collar and lid.
The thisque first appeared around 1500 and remained the sword chosen by european nobility and bourgeoisie until the end of the 17th century. Designed primarily as a thrust weapon (but still quite efficient for cutting and cutting), this one-handed Renaissance sword, usually double-edged, with a long, thin blade and sharp tip, was predominantly used by nobles for military and civilian purposes. Generally equipped with a basket, a drink or a sweeping handle more or less elaborated to improve the protection of hands on the battlefield or on the duel field, it enjoyed great popularity in the most varied forms throughout Europe as a fencing weapon, self-defense or duel and eventually became a status symbol and an essential fashion accessory for the attire of any gentleman or officer.
Note that this sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collection piece or decoration/exhibition and is not suitable for combat recreation. In addition to its quality as a collection object, it also fits perfectly as an accessory, p. E.g. to complete your costume.
