Djembe Drum With Hand Carved Base - West African Skin Goblet Drum  GREAT SOUND.
Carved from a single piece of African hardwood and topped with an animal skin as a drum head, usually goat skin. The skin is in great used condition generating a beautiful sound. This drum has a charming braided edge around the drum skin in traditional South African colors and a little cotton braid carrying loop. The drum belongs to the membranophone family of percussion instruments. Wikipedia describes the Djembe Drum as
jembe is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose. Measures approximately 7.25" in height by 5" in width at the top of the drum and has a base of approximately 4" in width.
