Paul Chen’s Wakizashi Koi has a high-carbon T10 steel blade forged by hand. The leaf of this wakizashi is particularly hardened using the traditional clay method. Koi Wakizashi is mounted in black and white and has the same black color, tsuka-ito is made of premium white Japanese cotton. The saya is finished in a deep black lacquer with a white and black striped cotton sageo. A finely rendered Koi, with true details on the front and back, forms the black iron tsuba. The hardware is superbly aged adding to the aesthetics of the piece. Hanwei’s Koi Wakizashi comes with a protective fabric bag and a traditional maintenance kit.
It is said that a Koi swims by rivers and climbs waterfalls bravely not unlike a Samurai warrior. In addition, it is said that if a Koi is caught, he will stand motionless under the knife, bravely facing his death as a Samurai in front of a sword.
