Most military sabers are effective for cutting and pushing, but can be heavy and difficult to handle accurately for any period of time. The Italian bereavement, however, is different! Its long, thin and moderately curved leaf is light as a feather and you can easily write your name in scarlet with its edge.
Many years ago, Master Ramón Martinez presented this tremendously effective sheet to Cold Steel® President Lynn C. Thompson, and Lynn was impressed enough to want to produce one for Cold Steel.

Cold Steel’s Italian bereavement saber® best described as ornate. The cleverly forged, tempered and polished blade has an attractive deep parchment engraving that will surely capture your attention, and the intricately perforated protection is made of glossy polished nickel steel. The protector has rolled edges and provides unsurpassed protection for the hand and forearm of a swordsman.
The beautiful pod is made of thick black leather and features a polished, mirror-engraved throat and cape with two carrying rings.
The carbon content and lean alloy of this surface hardening steel make this a very resistant material that avoids much of the fragility commonly associated with high carbon materials. Particularly suitable for blades that require impact resistance, it is often seen on large fixed blades and blades.
