Celtic short sword, II-III centuries a.C.Celtic short sword, II-III centuries a.C.
Swords with anthropomorphic grip are rare archaeological finds. This leads one to assume that such swords may have been ceremonial weapons reserved exclusively for higher-ranking warriors. The limited size of these daggers and swords (approx. 50 to 70 cm) further corroborates this theory. However, they were still functional and could possibly have served as secondary weapons for longer swords. The profile of the handle remained quite schematic at first, but its human form became more graphic over the course of the 2nd century a.C., with a head-shaped knob.
The sword is equipped with a copper protector, a brass and bone handle and a steel blade.
Note that this sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collection piece or decoration/exhibition and is not suitable for combat recreation. In addition to its quality as a collection object, it also fits perfectly as an accessory, p. E.g. to complete your costume.
