Carnival Cruise Line added a popular travel accessory to its “banned items” list and it is not the item you would expect.
The item in question? Bluetooth speakers.
While this item might take you by surprise, Carnival recently updated its website’s section on banned items prohibiting passengers from bringing the speakers on board.
“All speakers (including Bluetooth, portable, and wireless types) and radios are prohibited and will be held and returned at the end of the cruise,” the notice stated under “safety information” on Carnival’s website. “For safety reasons, public announcements must be heard by all guests and crew.”
The cruise line takes their policy a step further, requiring that all travelers wear headphones when using personal devices to watch shows or movies in public areas.
For those that dare to bring their speakers on board, they will be in for a rude awakening. Carnival says that guests can expect to have them confiscated when they board and only returned to them when they disembark the ship.
It is unclear when the speakers were added to the “banned items” list, although the change seems to have been implemented in the past month.
Carnival used to allow the speakers on board if they were used in staterooms. But the cruise liner always discouraged passengers from using wireless devices in the public areas of the ship.
